Andrew Schaumberg

Bio

Andrew Schaumberg PhD is a Lecturer at the Windreich Department of Artificial Intelligence and Human Health at the Icahn School of Medicine, and the Hasso Plattner Institute of Digital Health at Mount Sinai.  His research focuses on machine learning methods development for medical image analysis.  His interests include quality control, mobile platforms, and multimodal machine learning models for patient similarity search and diagnosis prediction.  His work has been published in journals such as Modern Pathology and Nature Biomedical Engineering.

In August of 2020, Dr Schaumberg received his PhD from the Tri-Institutional Training Program in Computational Biology and Medicine across Cornell University, Weill Cornell, and the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.  He was awarded an NIH NCI F31 grant that supported his PhD, under the supervision of Prof Thomas Fuchs.

In January of 2023, Dr Schaumberg completed his postdoctoral training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital under the supervision of Prof Faisal Mahmood.  Dr Schaumberg received a Research Excellence Award at the Brigham, for his work in computational pathology.

Dr. Schaumberg chaired the Career Development Committee of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Postdoctoral Association.  He remains active in the Harvard Medical Postdoctoral Association as a co-organizer of the Joint Mentoring Program for Postdocs.  Nationally, he is the Early Career Representative and Steering Committee member of the Medical Sciences Section of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Dr. Schaumberg has an appointment at the Boston Veterans Affairs Healthcare System.  Dr. Schaumberg does not represent Veterans Affairs in his capacity as Lecturer.
